Biology Labs Online is the result of the collaborative efforts of several individuals and groups:
Authors
Robert Desharnais, Ph.D. is a professor of Biology at California State University, Los Angeles, where he teaches courses in introductory biology, biometrics, genetics, population genetics, ecology, and population modelling. He is currently Director for Biological Science of the Virtual Courseware Project, an NSF- and CSU-funded project with the goal of using information technology to improve science education. He received a B.A. in biology from University of Massachusetts in Boston and an M.S. and Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston. His current research include the study of nonlinear dynamics and chaos theory in population ecology and the dynamics of intertidal mussel communities.
Jeffrey Bell, Ph.D. is a professor of Biology at California State University, Chico, where he teaches courses in genetics, introductory biology, evolution, and molecular biology. He received a B.S. in biochemistry and biophysics from Oregon State University and a Ph.D. in
molecular biology from the University of Southern California . His research
interest is in the molecular mechanisms that control development of animals
and in the role that these molecular mechanisms have played in evolution.
Contributors
David Caprette, Ph.D., is the content contributor for MitochondriaLab and EnzymeLab.
He is a laboratory coordinator for the Department of
Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Rice University, where he teaches
laboratory courses in introductory biosciences, physiology, microbiology,
cell biology, and electron microscopy to undergraduate and graduate
students. He received his B.S. in biology from Case-Western Reserve
University in 1974 and his Ph.D. in regulatory biology from Cleveland State
University in 1982. His current research interest is in molecular control
mechanisms for cell differentiation.
Jennifer Lundmark, Ph.D., is the content contributor for CardioLab.
She is an assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at
California State University, Sacramento. She teaches lecture and laboratory courses
in introductory anatomy and physiology, as well as advanced systemic physiology, to
undergraduate and graduate students. She received her B.S. in Physiology from University of
California, Davis in 1989, and her Ph.D. in Systemic Physiology from U.C.
Davis in 1996. While her graduate research was in the area of myocardial
metabolism, she is presently focusing her energies on science education.
James E. Mickle, Ph. D. is the content contributor for LeafLab. He is an associate professor
in the Department of Botany at North Carolina State University, where he teaches
introductory courses in biology and botany and advanced courses in paleobotany and plant geography
to undergraduate and graduate students. He received his B. Sc. and M. Sc. in
Botany from Ohio State University, and his Ph. D. in Botany from Ohio
University. His current research is in paleobotany and in plant morphology.
