About Biology Labs Online
Access to Biology Labs Online (BLOL) is provided by the California State University system. Development was partially supported by a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation.Project Goal: Develop and implement interactive biology activities
Biology Labs Online activities are:
- Web-based and easily accessible
- Appropriate for introductory biology, genetics, cell biology, and ecology
- Designed to reinforce scientific methodology
- Interactive, intuitive, and inquiry-based
- Vertically scalable
- Modular and self-contained
Biology Labs Online activities are NOT:
- Designed to replace traditional "wet labs"
- Declarative multimedia presentations
- Stand-alone tutorials
- Online courses
Lab Topic Selection Criteria
Create virtual labs that allow students to actively learn about biological principles that are currently too difficult to do in "wet" labs because they:
- are too dangerous
- are too expensive
- take too long
